I have always enjoyed discussions about societal problems and what needs to be done for things to change for the better. Poverty and inequality were always big issues for me. And I always wanted to not only use big words in discussions, but also takes action to make this world a better place. In the months before being introduced to Sustain, I became increasingly aware that climate change will increasingly be a cause of inequality and poverty, and that environmental sustainability is vital to combat it. When I got to know about Sustain, I knew that joining would be a meaningful way to contribute to increasing awareness at the UT, to making the UT more sustainable, and a chance to learn more about sustainability myself.

I joined the events committee from February 2019 till February 2020. I got to bring in my own ideas for events, and while organizing events, I got to know many enthusiastic people in Enschede who are also concerned with sustainability, such as Susanne from Ecocentrum Emma (see picture below) or Tom and Suzanne from the local Amnesty International group, and of course many active UT students with a similar vision and values. I am grateful for having had the opportunity to be active with Sustain!
